San Francisco's Toy Ban - Big Meanies?
I specifically remember some of my 'favorite' Kids Meal toys. I remember the way the plastic smelled like grease (ew), I remember the disappointment of getting the same toy twice and I remember wanting the Kids Meal specifically for the toy, because I liked the food on the "grown-up" menu better.
Whether the popularity of crappy kids' meal food is a product of bad parenting or manipulative marketing, San Francisco passed the Kids' Meal Toy "ban."
Lawmakers in San Francisco overrode Mayor Gavin Newsom's veto on the free kids' meal toy "ban" on November 23rd.
As a result, restaurants in San Francisco can no longer give away toys in kids meals that don't meet certain nutrition standards (they can sell them though).
I'm curious to know what people think of this law. I absolutely agree with much of the opposition, which (rightfully) claimed that parents should be more responsible for what their kids are eating. I also think that it doesn't hurt to stick it to the folks that are supplying the nasty options out there. If you're going to make your food convenient, cheap, tasty (ew), and appealing to kids in that they get a toy every time they eat your meals ... offer them good food. No?
If you have an opinion, make it known folks. Tell me something good!
I'm interested.
