Fight World Hunger Because You Can

Global efforts to support developing nations in their struggle against poverty, disease and hunger (among other things) have increased dramatically in recent years, and rightfully so. Entrepreneurs, volunteers, philanthropists, people with ideas, time and money donate, advise and encourage that support.

Here's the bad news: World Hunger 'hits one billion'. According to the UN this figure has increased by 100 million due to the global financial crisis.

The good news is that there are innumerable organizations, funds, groups and individuals working to combat this problem.

Remember Mark Arnoldy? He's the 22 year old that is developing Nepal NUTrition, a peanut based substance to be produced in Nepal to fight famine in Nepal. (Mark Arnoldy Is Someone Good)

Have you heard of Plumpy'nut? It's is a peanut based substance that has helped to save thousands of children's lives in Niger. (ECHO and UNICEF promote Plumpy’nut production to improve child nutrition in Niger)

They say that charity begins at home; for me home is the Unites States, so for me and roughly 306,708,793 other Americans this organization is doing something good- at home: Feeding America

"Feeding America is the nation's leading domestic hunger-relief charity.  Our mission is to feed America's hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage [the US] in the fight to end hunger.

Each year, the Feeding America network provides food assistance to more than 25 million low-income people facing hunger in the United States, including more than 9 million children and nearly 3 million seniors."

So yes, one billion people plus are hungry, and there is absolutely nothing good about that.

We can contribute to, know about and support organizations like those listed above (and more) that are diligently working to end this bad; that's something good.
