How about this idea: “charity begins at home” someone very dear to me tells me all the time that there is plenty of good to be done here, at home. That I should look into that, do some of that, get into that. So here’s something good, close to home, in the country I call home at least...
 

Bad News: Katrina hit hard, and the people of New Orleans are still working to rebuild almost 5 years later.

Good News: Brian Bordainick, The 9th Ward Field Of Dreams, the football team and athletics department of Carver High School in New Orleans are working together (with loads of other folks) to rebuild, in a very important way.

I have been talking with Brian and I think he’s Someone Good.

SG:  Who are you?
BB:  I am the founder of the 9th Ward Field of Dreams project taking place on the campus of GW Carver High School in the 9th Ward, Louisiana.  Our organization is building a $1.85MM community space that includes a turf football field, public track, stadium seating, and lighting to be utilized by students and community members free of charge.

SG:  How long have you been at it?
BB:  We took our first donation on November 15, 2008

SG:  Where are you?
BB:  New Orleans

SG: How far are you trying to take it (what is your goal)?
BB: We would like to be open ASAP.  We aren’t going to quit until we build what we set out to do.

SG: How did you get started? (Both what inspired you and what it took to get you off the ground if you care to share.)
BB: I am an athletic director at the school, and seeing our kids constantly get what other people didn’t want inspired a group of us to change the outcome for some of these kids.  Basically, we want to work with them to build something that can restore pride and be a catalyst for rebirth in post-Katrina New Orleans.

SG:  How can we help?
